Preschool
Our preschool program is designed to establish early learning and provide young learners with the foundation they need to be successful throughout their school careers. Our program has a long-standing tradition of encouraging the growth and learning of children through play and exploration. Our program provides opportunities for this learning to take place in a safe, fun, and Christ-centered environment. A typical day in our program consists of circle time, centers, snack, core subjects, religion, lunch, nap/rest time, enrichment, special classes, and recess. We offer both a half-day and full-day program, as well as a part-time or full-time program.
Our older preschool class utilizes the Early Learning Matters curriculum by Purdue, while our younger preschool class utilizes the Learning Without Tears curriculum. Classroom learning centers are changed to match the week’s theme and guest speakers are invited to come and share when they are applicable. Field trips are taken when they are able to enhance the learning of the theme that week. Students become fully immersed in the week’s theme through song, dance, dramatic play, dress-up, and exploration.
Our preschoolers are considered a valued part of our school and therefore participate in as many parts of the school as they can. They attend special classes (library, PE, art, music, and Spanish). They participate in school programs, performances, convocations, announcements, and even eventually attend school Mass when they are ready. Daily communication is provided to parents as well as a weekly newsletter as we know the great importance of communication at the preschool level.
Language Arts
Students engage in work on letter recognition and sounds. Pre-reading skills are a driving focus in the curriculum. Students are immersed in many different forms and types of literature. Students practice rhymes and songs to enhance language acquisition.
Mathematics
Number recognition and forming early Math concepts are at the center of our Math curriculum. Manipulatives and games are incorporated to enhance Math learning.
Religion
Students are exposed to Jesus and his teachings through Bible stories. Prayer is a valued part of each and every day. Preschoolers are even provided community service opportunities to help grow their faith.
Science/Social Studies
Students learn how the world around them works through exploration and hands on experimentation. Students are exposed to sights and symbols of our local community and government as well as the diverse cultures around the world.
Learning Through Play
Learning Centers
Preschool utilizes a daily, centers learning rotation. Centers are changed each week to align with the week’s theme. Classroom centers include dramatic play, library, fine/ gross motor skills practice, letter/number recognition, and technology.
STREAM
Our program incorporates STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art, and Math) projects.
Field Trips
Our program includes many trips around our local community. We feed the curiosity of our young learners by showing them the inner workings and behind the scenes of many familiar places to them. We introduce them to their community in a whole new way. They become familiar with actual community helpers and form positive relationships with them.
